About Us

Where the Kokopelli legend lives on......

ABOUT US (ME)

The fact is we don't have any international headquarters, corporate buildings, or a massive mechanical operation. The business is owned, run, and made by me. Just me and the dogs, who are the sounding board for all my work and usually give solid support, when not chewing the leather and wood.

How did this business come about? Well, I served in the US Air Force for 4 years during Viet Nam, graduated from college, worked in aerospace for many, many years and did genealogy and woodworking as a hobbies. When I got lung cancer in 1998, I had a successful operation to remove part of my lung, and had some time to think about what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. The emphasis was on enjoyment. I decided to do my genealogy research and do woodworking. I started working with mesquite here in the desert because it was readily available, then expanded to Yucca, Sotol, and other woods. Since Kokopelli is so much a part of the Southwest Culture I became very interested and did research on the legend surrounding him. I expanded my interests to woodburning and then into making custom woodburnings and products that folks wanted me to design. I really love what I do and it shows in what I make and the emails I get praising my work.

One of the exceptional aspects of the walking sticks and canes is the outstanding professional workmanship and elegant finish. My father was a professional antique restorer of wood finishes and a finishing expert for all types of wood furniture. He taught me his techniques and secrets at an early age, and I worked with him for many years. His knowledge was handed down through his grandfather, his great grandfather, etc. The love of wood and finishing runs in my blood, as does the artistic talents handed down through my mother's side of writers and photographers.

Have a lucky "Kokopelli" day, click here for my environmental policy.....
